Westbrooke Elementary - OCPS

The Winter Haven Area Transit (W.H.A.T.) facility, completed in December 2007, stands as a testament to efficient design and community-focused infrastructure. This $3.2 million project encompasses a 5,979 sq. ft. Mediterranean-style terminal featuring twelve bus bays, serving as a crucial transportation hub for the Winter Haven area. The facility boasts concrete foundations, a tiled roof with wood trusses, stucco exterior, and comprehensive HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Its design elements include Mediterranean-style pavilions, a ticket counter, and covered walkways, while a local artist’s mosaic work in the porcelain flooring adds a unique cultural touch. The project, a collaboration between the Winter Haven Board of Commissioners, Pickett-Hunter Associates, and key personnel Alfred Simmons, John Cleveland, and Jeffery Spencer, exemplifies the successful fusion of modern transit needs with aesthetic appeal and local influences.
